New MINIS for Bedfordshire 11 to 17-year-olds

Wednesday, August 20 2014

Bedfordshire drivers as young as 11 can now get behind the wheel of the new MINI Hatch, following delivery of the car to Bedford Autodrome for the venue's unique YoungDrive! programme.

Starting this week, children and teenagers can enjoy their first taste of motoring in MINI's new One Hatch in a safe, traffic-free environment at the purpose-built Bedford driving facility, accompanied by a DSA-approved instructor. During about 40-minutes in the driving seat, youngsters are introduced to essential car control skills and manoeuvres at speeds of up to 40mph. This experience, as well as being enjoyable, can shorten the time and expense subsequently needed in learning to drive on the public road.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of MSV, which owns and operates Bedford Autodrome and four other UK circuits, said: "Children, teenagers and parents all tell us how much they love YoungDrive!, and it is important that the cars make people smile. The new MINIS are the perfect choice - they're easy to drive and they're fun, perfect for encouraging the desire to learn car-control skills and for fostering a love of driving."

The new-look MINIs, all equipped with dual-controls, replace a fleet of previous-generation MINI One Hatch cars used by YoungDrive! since 2012. The YoungDrive! programme runs on selected midweek and weekend dates all year round and costs £79 for a 12 month voucher.
