Mark Rutherford Upper School finish 1-2 in Bedford Schools' GP

Sunday, June 16 2013

Mark Rutherford Upper School completed a dominant performance in the Bedford Autodrome Schools' Grand Prix with a 1-2 finish. The school's Griffins entry completed 102 laps of the circuit, four more than sister car Inferno. It's the second time that the school has won the race, which challenges local schools to build and race electric cars.

Recovering to third place after issues earlier in the event was the St Thomas More Catholic Upper School Windcatcher entry, which had stopped on the circuit halfway through before being recovered to the pitlane. A strong effort in the final hour ensured that they secured the final place on the podium, ahead of Redborne Racing.

The final forty minutes saw a few teams start to struggle with loss of power as the batteries began to run out of charge. A windy day, briefly interrupted by a passing shower, provided extra challenges for the teams, however the race ended under gloriously sunny skies.

Taking fifth place was the Team BGS entry, with the BUS Drivers, fastest in practice, ending sixth. Extra Lite finished a further two laps behind, with BMS Racing Car 1 beating Bedford School to eighth place.
