Bedford's Palmersport team prepares for busy season

Tuesday, March 06 2012

Bedford Autodrome's PalmerSport instructors and team leaders readied themselves for a busy 2012 season recently, with an intensive day of training.

50 regular PalmerSport instructors and 28 hopeful trainees were briefed on the changes for 2012, with special attention given to customer service training, before the regular team focussed on first aid and fire training. With safety a primary concern at PalmerSport, comprehensive instruction is provided to all of the team.

PalmerSport's 25-strong army of team leaders were also provided with first aid and fire instruction, in addition to their programme of bus and light duty vehicle driving and safety.

Meanwhile the trainees headed to the facility's Monza suite to begin their assessment. Whilst an ability to control a car at high speed is a prerequisite for the job, being able to communicate this ability to guests is just as important, and every participant had to complete a written test and presentation. Amongst the many drivers showing their skills in the PalmerSport Caterham Superlights were candidates from Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, South Africa, Australia as well as home-grown talent. All commented on how impressed they were by the facilities, cars and staff at PalmerSport.

Some of the instructors on the day received a special treat with a handful of laps in the new PalmerSport Ariel Atom 3 on the North circuit and the feedback from was highly enthusiastic. Don't be surprised if you're given an extra special push by your passenger when driving this car!

"PalmerSport instructors have a reputation as being the best in the world for pushing their guests to the limits," explained Group Chief Instructor Phil Ellis. "So it is essential that they are selected and trained to the highest standards. The 2012 training day has helped prepare the team for another successful year ahead"
