Bedford High School for Girls secure Schools' Grand Prix victory

Sunday, June 17 2012

Bedford High School for Girls' High Voltage car has secured victory in the 2012 Bedford Autodrome Schools' Grand Prix after a dominant performance.

The car led for almost all the race, initially taking the lead in the 20th lap, and never surrendering it, eventually securing the win by 13 laps. Not only did the car win the race, but it also claimed the overall lap record, winning the fastest lap award in the process. Indeed it was a good day all round for the crew, which also won the most reliable car award.

The result was well deserved, with the car appearing to suffer from little or no technical issues, and was visibly faster than the opposition. Solid work in the pits with driver changes and battery changes also aided their on track speed.

The Mark Rutherford Upper School continued their strong run of success in this event, as The Griffins and Inferno battled hard for second and third, with The Griffins ultimately emerging as runners-up despite having to make a late final pit stop.

St Thomas More Catholic Upper School scooped the fourth and fifth positions, with Team 1 finishing ahead of Team 2. Sparks from Bedford Girls School secured sixth place.

Redbourne Upper School and Community College finished seventh, and Academy Aces from Bedford Academy finished eighth.

Last year's victors Biddenham International School suffered from some early mechanical issues but recovered to finish ninth ahead of Sparks from Bedford High School for Girls. Red Eagle Racing rounded off the finishers in 11th place.
