MSV Young Journalist of the Year scales new heights

Monday, October 31 2011

Steven Lickorish, one of the winners of the inaugural MotorSport Vision Young Journalist of the Year award, has scaled new heights in his young career as a writer, after being called up as a reporter on two of the country's leading motorsport publications.

The Milton Keynes teenager reported for Autosport Magazine and Motorsport News at two recent events at Silverstone and Rockingham after winning the award.

"Winning the MSV Young Journalist of the Year competition has given me a head start in what is a very competitive field" commented Lickorish.

"After winning the competition I contacted Rob Ladbrook (one of the judges of the competition) from Motorsport News, and asked him how to get into motorsport journalism. He explained the different options available and kindly offered some work experience with them. I spent a week with Motorsport News in August and after a successful placement, was put onto their contributor list and was then asked to cover the recent BRSCC meets for both them and Autosport."

As part of his prize for winning the MSV Young Journalist of the Year Award, Steven got behind the wheel of the BMW 1 Series YoungDrive! car to experience driving for the first time, and experience he described as "massively worthwhile for anyone preparing to learn to drive." He also had a report published in a race event programme.

YoungDrive! experiences are available at Bedford Autodrome, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park in brand new MINIs for just £79. The course is open to anyone aged 11-17 and at least 4'8" tall. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click this link.
